Community Affairs and Communications

·         Conrad Sturch retired on November 8th – he will be missed.

·         Supported several tours of the plate vault and scanning facilities.

Project Management and Technical Infrastructure

·         Updated GSC-II schedule estimates

MISSION SUPPORT

HST Operations

·         Investigated 3 bad guide star alerts.  All turned out to be unresolved (on the Schmidt Plate) multiple star systems, classified in GSC1 as single stellar objects.  The much higher angular resolution of the HST FGS is able to separate the closely spaced systems. Filed a Bad GS Alert for each of the GSs.

·         Continued to develop software to update the keywords of the header files.

NVO Development Studies

·         Continued to develop web services for science demos.

NGST Development Studies

·         None.

                                      DIGITIZED SKY SURVEY

Plate Scanning

·         Continued scanning the POSS-I O (blue) survey plates.

GAMMA Microdensitometer Systems

·         Gamma 1 suffered a mechanical failure and will require some maintenance work.

·         GAMMA2 continues to operate smoothly.

Data Compression/CD Production

·         Identified data corruption for a number of DSS images on the RaidTec NAS device. Developed software to check all datafiles and began program to replace bad data files.

·         Developing revised plan for image archive media migration.

·

GSC-II

COMPASS Database

·         As of 3-Dec-2002 the COMPASS database contained 1,053,282,021 unique object index entries.  At this time 5880 GSC2 plates are loaded and 5369 GSC2 plates are matched.
·         The database file system has grown to 1.91 TB in size and is currently at 62 % of the total            hard disk capacity of the current RAID array.

Plate Processing

·         proceeding.

Calibrations: Astrometry

·         OATo has provided a preliminary proper motion analysis. Results are being studied.

Calibrations: Classification

·         The port of the object classifier application from VMS to Windows 2000 has been completed and is now in testing.

Calibrations: Photometry (GSPC-II and DSS-I and -II)

·         Reduction of last observing runs in progress

Science

·         None reported.
