Highlights for Division Meeting

·         None

 

Community Affairs and Communications

·         Ron Drimmel from OATo visited June 9-14. He presented a JC talk on the effects of crowding and object misclassification on the GSC-II starcounts.

·         Planning visits to STScI by Lattanzi/Bucciarelli (July/August) and Spagna/Carollo (September/October)

·         Finalizing agreement with Southern Stars Systems to incorporate DSS2 images into a new amateur astronomy product.

 

Project Management and Technical Infrastructure

·         Server to replace CHART has been received and awaiting CPT installation. Associated RAID arrays to hold CASB image archive have been ordered.

·         Scheduled with CPT to migrate CASB web pages to Zope server. CHART will continue to be a back-end server for GSC/DSS webservices.

·         Ongoing problems with Halon system control panel in the GSOPS area. Facilities are working the problem.

·         Discovered and reset default permissions on Snapservers so that Unix users could not longer delete files.

·         Successfully read 2MASS DLT tapes – took longer than expected since there is no public DLT7000 drive outside of the SOGS firewall.

 

MISSION SUPPORT

HST Operations

·         Investigated 7 bad guide star alerts.

·         Continued to develop software to update the keywords of the header files.

·         HUGS2 test plan outlined. Detailed plan in development.

·         Revisions to GSC 2.3 export code to support NGSS in progress

Plate Scanning

·         Continued scanning the POSS-I O (blue) survey plates.

 
GAMMA Microdensitometer Systems

·         GAMMA1 A/D board under construction. Downtime expected to be another few weeks.

·         Scanning continuing on GAMMA2 following mechanical maintenance and adjustments.
