· Planning visit to OATo in April for GSC-2 management meeting

Project Management and Technical Infrastructure

· Greene, Hanley, Loomis and McLean attended the .NET/web services class held at JHU.

· Repeated OS crashes of database server causing concerns – CPT are investigating patches.

MISSION SUPPORT

HST Operations

· Investigated 9 bad guide star alerts, and 1 failed STIS acquisition. The failed acquisition was due to high proper motion of the Guide Star.

· Continued to develop software to update the keywords of the header files.

NVO Development Studies

· See NVO report

NGST Development Studies

· Reviewed drafts of two documents, “The Suitability of GSC-2 as a Source for JWST Guide Stars” by Kriss and “Meeting the 95% Guide Star Acquisition Rate for JWST with GSC2” by Nelan. The conclusion is that the final GSC2 as planned is sufficient.

DIGITIZED SKY SURVEY

Plate Scanning

· Continued scanning the POSS-I O (blue) survey plates.

GAMMA Microdensitometer Systems

· GAMMA1 replacement A/D converter has been identified and ordered. Downtime expected to be several weeks. Scanning continuing on GAMMA2.

Data Compression/CD Production

GSC-II

COMPASS Database

· As of 31-March-2003 the COMPASS database contained 2,205,362,290 unique object index entries. At this time, 6273 GSC2 plates are loaded and 6034 GSC2 plates are matched.

· Database Schema updated to support new version of GSPC2 and SKYMAP
